Super8 and Tab: Empire

This is a brief heads-up to let you know that Super8 and Tab’s new album, Empire features Jan Burton and Mike Tournier, aka. Syntax.

Says Mike Tournier:

Jan has a few bits and bobs out at the moment. He’s got a few tracks on a new album by Finnish DJs, Super8 and Tab called “Empire”. The title track is something we co-wrote but my favorite track on the album is called “Free Love”. He was quite surprised that it was included in an otherwise dance led record, but I think it sounds quite ‘Syntaxy”. He’s also singing on the new Eric Prydz single “Niton (The Reason)”. I think Eric is releasing another track (not sure of the title) that I co-wrote with Jan next.

So there’s a nice new item for the collection. Please remember to support the artists: buy the album

Hello all!

I’ve just had some rather pleasing news from Mike Tournier regarding the upcoming Syntax album. First of all, the reason that the album has taken so long is that it is entirely self-funded; there’s no record company to pay up-front expenses, so it’s had to be something that happens “as and when”.

Over the course of the last year, Mike and Jan have been working with engineer John Pennington to put the final mixes of the tracks together. John used to do the live sound for Fluke and has also worked with Moby, Roysopp and the Swedish singer, Robyn, so that’s a pretty good CV for a sound engineer! John is also an interesting figure historically for Fluke as, Mike tells me, he was also involved in several of the nineties Fluke remixes including “Out of Control” by the Rolling Stones, “Full Moon” by Robert Miles and “Theme for Great Cities” by the Simple Minds. He was also involved in “Dirty Little Mouth” from the Playing by Heart soundtrack.

However, the Syntax album is really getting there now and the plan is to put out a promo CD of Thorns and Roses early next year, followed by an album sampler and then the full version. The new mix of Thorns and Roses is really great and substantially different to the MySpace demo version a while back; it has a far more electronic (and for me, exciting) feel while still keeping the beauty of the primitive version.

More as it comes in!

So many posts, so little time.

Courtesy of jUSTIN cREDIBLE, here’s two lovely videos from the Tabernacle gig with enhanced audio, re-synchronized to fit the video as best as possible.

Enjoy!

Sympathy for the Devil:

The, obvious, disadvantage of this new audio is you miss out on my sing-along skills… hmmm!

Thanks to Cory for the info (and jUSTIN cREDIBLE here at 2bp HQ for dividing up the samples), the discography now contains complete timing info and samples for Fatal’s promo CD, Periodic Breathing. As and when I get time to do further work on the codebase, I’ll add the images there as well.

Upcoming in the next few days are further Fluke DJs mixes and that ever elusive news on Syntax for which you’ve all been waiting!

The way things are going around here, you’d think it was Christmas or something…

As before, here’s the conditions:

1.) If you like the tracks, you will go buy them
2.) If you are the copyright holder and do not want the material hosted here, contact me and I will instantly remove it. Email: martin [at] 2bitpie.net. Please bear in mind, before you take action, however, that we run this site as devotees of the music of Fluke and most of our visitors are like-minded collectors whose actions are extremely unlikely to hurt your commercial interests — we only collect recordings that are not commercially available, or have been mixed, for the sake of completion.

This is a Fluke DJs set when they appeared on KISS FM. There is very little info available on this set (it’s been a while since I listened to it and I can’t even remember a date), but we could, obviously, work out a tracklist using Shazam if anybody felt up to it…

I’ve just spent pretty much all of today rewriting the discography system in Django and the new system can be found at: http://discography.2bitpie.net.

The new system has almost all the information from the previous incarnation and will be improved as and when I have time. Current bugs are that every track with mix info will display a “remixed by” section, but this will be blank if no info is present and there are also none of the drop-down filter boxes at present. Images are not yet displayed and there is no caching as of yet.

However, the new system does make maintaining the whole thing a lot easier behind the scenes. As a result, I’ve just added the aforementioned Fatal promo to the list; samples if and when Cory can send them to me.

Enjoy!

P.S. if you can’t access the site, it could be that your DNS needs to update, which should happen in the next 24 hours.

Have another Fluke DJs set!

As before, here’s the conditions:

1.) If you like the tracks, you will go buy them
2.) If you are the copyright holder and do not want the material hosted here, contact me and I will instantly remove it. Email: martin [at] 2bitpie.net. This mix is live on Annie Nightingale, 26/10/2003 and, according to the BBC Website, which seems a great deal more accurate this time, the tracklist is:

Discoshit – ‘Junk’ – (Phokal)
Fluke – ‘Switch (Marco Bellini + Val Waller remix)’ – One little Indian)
Santos – ‘Deep Breat’ – (Mantra Vibes Italy)
Coburn – ‘Ska Song’ – (Unknown)
Soul Mekanik – ‘C’est Robotique’ – (R.I.P.)
Phil Kieren – ‘Juicy’ – (Kingsize)
Freeland – ‘Supernatual Thing’ – (Marine Parade)
Man With Guitar – ‘Man With Guitar’ – (Kitsune)
Factor E and Knick – ‘Cool Down (Autobots Relick)’ – (Supercharged)
Basement Jaxx – ‘Hot ‘n Cold’ – (XL)

In a spate of posting, jUSTIN has also assembled all the radio mixes by the Fluke DJs that we could find. I’m less certain of the legality of posting this material, but I do so here with two provisos:

1.) If you like the tracks, you will go buy them
2.) If you are the copyright holder and do not want the material hosted here, contact me and I will instantly remove it. Email: martin [at] 2bitpie.net. Please bear in mind, before you take action, however, that we run this site as devotees of the music of Fluke and most of our visitors are like-minded collectors whose actions are extremely unlikely to hurt your commercial interests — we only collect recordings that are not commercially available, or have been mixed, for the sake of completion.

The first of these sets is Fluke’s mix on Annie Nightingale, Radio 1 which was broadcast on the 22/12/02. The tracklist was, according to the BBC Website as follows:

Solid Ground – ‘True Liberation’ (Whole 9 Yards)
Missy Elliott – ‘Work It’ (White Label)
Future Sound Of London – ‘Papua New Guinea’ (White label)
AMB – ‘Where R Ya? (Chris Carter Mix)’ (Breaks 4 Ever)
Ibizarre – ‘Universe Unfolding’ (Warner)
Layo and Bushwacka – ‘Love Story (Stanton Warriors Mix)’ (XL)

We think this is completely wrong and would be interested to accumulate a better version. A way to do this might be to run the recording through Shazaam, but I haven’t yet had the time to do so.

A nice new audio recording here, courtesy of jUSTIN cREDIBLE’s cleanup operation, which gives us a nicely rebalanced remaster of the audio from the Tabernacle gig in 2009.
