Fluke Live at The Croft: Don't Get Excited

Monday, 29 September 2008

Fluke and 2 Bit Pie ImageWell, I got a little hyped when I saw a page at Last FM that seemed to be a Fluke live concert. Needless to say, this is not the case.

We Got Tickets is also advertising this as a gig by "Fluke" and this is the reason for it appearing on the Last FM; it has been automatically imported.

The actual line-up (as detailed on The Croft's own website) is for "Flook". More information on these homonymous rascals can be found on their page at The Croft. A representative sample reads:

Flook has [sic] always been celebrated for their organic, fluid and brilliantly innovative all-acoustic fusion of Irish folklore with modern and trans-national rhythms. What really makes them extraordinary, however, is the way their sound emerges from a sixth sense, allowing band members to communicate on a subliminal level. There is an uncanny interplay between the players; each seems to respond not only to what is presently being heard but also to as-yet-unvoiced impulses.

Far out! But it's just not quite what I'd hoped for when first seeing "Fluke, live in Bristol".

comment from Martin
Just a note that, at the time of writing, the Last FM entry read "Fluke". This has now been corrected to "Flook".

Tribal Gathering 1997 Poster

Sunday, 28 September 2008
Fluke and 2 Bit Pie Image Here's another piece of Fluke memorabilia that showcases their appearance at the 1997 Tribal Gathering festival - an asset that will surely be appreciated by anybody who has checked out their live set from that appearance.

Also of interest to me personally was their appearance alongside Alabama 3 at this festival - a great band who I'd recommend you check out if you don't know already - it's sweet-pretty-country-and-western-acid-house music!

To view the poster in full (132kb), click the image.

In other news, if anybody felt like helping out there's a load more posters over at Ebay which I can't really afford to buy, but scans of which would look good on the site! If you purchased one of these, scanned or photographed it and emailed it to me (martin@2bitpie.net) then you could have a crowning moment of glory when your name appears alongside it on the site - sorry, that's the best I can offer!

Justin Credible's New EP: mINDFLOWER

Friday, 26 September 2008
Fluke and 2 Bit Pie Image2bitpie.net is proud to present the latest work of Justin Credible: the mINDFLOWER EP.

For those that don't know, Justin is a long time helper here at 2bitpie.net. It is thanks to him that we are able to present much of the information here, especially the live recordings and he has also frequently contributed remixes of 2 Bit Pie and Fluke records that he has produced over the past few years.

His latest work is clearly Fluke inspired, with tracks entitled "cAT mOON" and "mY fEET dON'T tOUCH tHE gROUND" the references abound. However, Justin has brought his own unique feel to this record and the music is brand new. For those who have been following his progress, you'll see clearly that this new record is more progressive, more confident in itself and above all a sense of finding its own feet: a defining sound. Whether it's mind-flower, a mental experience that grows from the earth, or mind-flower, an experience of passage, of liquidity and flow is up to you.

The tracklist for the EP reads as follows:

1.) mY hEALING
2.) mESSAGE
3.) mINDFLOWER
4.) cAT mOON
5.) mY fEET dONT tOUCH tHE gROUND

Finally then, get your fix here: Justin Credible - The mINDFLOWER EP

Fluke: Bullet Poster

Thursday, 25 September 2008
Fluke and 2 Bit Pie Image A further image for all die-hard fans, this time the promotional poster for Bullet from 1995.

There's not a great deal going on in the poster aside from format information and a notable mention that the remixes by the Dust Brothers are the US "Dust Brothers" and not The Chemical Brothers under their former name.

Risotto poster from 1997

Monday, 22 September 2008
Fluke and 2 Bit Pie Image In the ongoing archival effort I hereby take a break from my schedule to present the best photograph I could manage of my Risotto promo poster from 1997.

If you have any similar items (I have a few more that I'll put up one at a time) then email me (martin@2bitpie.net) with the images. It would be great to build up as much Fluke content as possible for all the die-hards out there.

Fluke poster with dates

Sunday, 21 September 2008
Fluke and 2 Bit Pie Image For the sake of posterity, I am collecting images of Fluke related material that showcases live dates, album release dates, posters etc.

The first of these is a poster for Tosh which lists all of Fluke's live dates for 1995 when it seems they embarked upon a tour of every property in the UK that might conceivably house a student!

New Soundcity 94 Recording

Sunday, 21 September 2008
Fluke and 2 Bit Pie Image Thanks to Ian Haddock and the ever-incredible Justin Credible (who passed the set on to me) I am pleased to present an extended and higher quality version of the Soundcity 1994 set!

The set kicks off with the tail end of Slid, straight into Electric Guitar followed by an ace rendition of Top of the World which gives way to Astrosapiens and then Bubble.

You can grab the file here: Fluke - Live at Soundcity 1994 Better Quality

The original set will remain on the server at the same place for those aficionados who want to compate the sets :)
