Yuki

Well, here's one hot of the press.

About 2 hours ago I received an email from Jon Fugler with some more details of his and Mike Bryant's (that's Fluke for those not paying attention!) work on an album for Yuki. Here's precisely what he had to say:

We have been working on an album for Yuki for a while now, it is most definitely her album, as you will be able to hear, Mike and myself are merely her willing servants....

It's titled 'Dark Like Snow' , Yuki means like snow in Japanese.

It has influences from everywhere......

It can be very angry....

It has pop sensibilities....

It is ok to cry....

Thus far I have listened to one track, entitled Runaway, which is the "Pop Sensibility" track that Jon mentioned. For those familiar with the 2 Bit Pie sound there are a few surprises in store. The track starts with a heavy synth line, but then reverts to a far less bass-heavy sound than would be expected from a Fluke number. It does feature a recurring background "blip-tweak" (for want of a better term) but, I would side with Jon in saying that this is a distinctly pop sound. I want to affirm though that this is in no way a negative statement; if Fluke did pop music, it would probably be the best pop music in the world - to paraphrase a certain advertising campaign!

The lyrics to the track are sung in Yuki's mesmerising tones and centre around the phrase "I'm tired, I'm lost and I'm lonely"; while it has a pop feel, there's some dark stuff going on here.

While I do not have permission to post any of the material at the moment, Jon assures me that as work progresses he will send some clips to tease you with!

Syntax - Mike Tournier and Jan BurtonThanks to Justin and Tim at the comments on the Thorns and Roses transcription we have a set of lyrics for Moving to Mars, the Syntax promo track at their new official MySpace location.

There's something 'bout the sun today,
Is it summer is it autumn rain,
Skin and sin come out, the best of flesh is out.

There's something 'bout the moon and the stars,
That makes us think 'bout living on mars,
When the summer comes, and when the water runs.

Space and time are parallel,
There's many worlds, that I can tell,
They're way beyond, the darkest skies,
We're not alone, and we can fly.
Relocate, investigate,
Other worlds, and other states,
Information, coming in,
There's no relation, no more sin.

There's something 'bout the moon and the stars,
That makes us think 'bout living on mars,
When the summer comes, and when the water runs.

We synchronize our lives to them,
We recognize the price put in,
We compromised, it amplifies time.

Space and time are parallel,
There's many worlds, that I can tell,
They're way beyond, the darkest skies,
We're not alone, and we can fly.
Relocate, investigate,
Other worlds, and other states,
Information, coming in,
There's no relation, no more sin.

There's something 'bout the moon and the stars,
That makes us think 'bout living on mars,
When the summer comes, and when the water runs. (x2)

Thanks a lot guys!

I made some veiled promises in the last post, and I am still waiting to hear back from various parties who are providing the goods, but sit tight because there are things in the works that should be forthcoming in the near future.

Leftfield live in London

Sunday, 02 November 2008
Leftfield. Neil Barnes and Paul DaleyThis is a non-2 Bit Pie/Fluke related post, but I wanted to put it up because it would be a seriously major event were it to go ahead.

There's a site called NotPaul (which I hadn't heard of until today) which basically is for attempting to persuade artists to play live - before you shout, I've tried all I can Fluke-wise... don't hold your breath. Anyway, somebody has set one up for Leftfield who are an absolutely epic group and, any self respecting Fluke fan should certainly be supporting this project!

Anyway, the way it works is that you head over to the NotPaul event page and put in a maximum "bid" that you would be willing to pay IF the event were to be scheduled, ie. if Leftfield agreed to reform and play a gig. If it doesn't happen or you can't make it (you have 2 days after confirmation to cancel) then you don't pay anything.

In case you are doubting the merit of the project, I attach the following YouTube clip of Leftfield playing "Inspection Check One" live in 2000:

So anyway, head over to the: Leftfield Live in London NotPaul event.

Oh, and Brian, apologies for the delay, but I'm setting up our system this evening. For the rest of the world, if you hold tight there could be some new goodies on the way!

Final version of Moving to Mars transcription in the next day or so - thanks to Justin and Tim for their versions in the comments, I'll merge the two and put it up as a final version. On that note, if you felt like fixing up my effort on Fame Game I'd really appreciate more sets of ears (it can't really be a "knighted child"!)

Incredible live band. That video from Sao Paulo only touches on how great they were live. I've put my bid in!

Now how about an Orbital gig too...
